Ear cropping is a procedure in which a portion of the ear is removed. The purpose of the procedure is usually to produce ears that stand erect. This procedure is most often performed in puppies around 8-12 weeks of age. We will not perform this procedure after 14 weeks of age because as the pup ages the ear cartilage becomes less pliant and the potential for non-erect ears increases.
We require every puppy that comes in for an ear crop be seen by a doctor before the surgery date and to be put on IV fluids during surgery and the laser be used.
